This is an oil painting on an 12" x 16" x 1 1/2" canvas with wrap around edges.

Story:
A single red rose in a glass of water and a candle sitting on a table. This made a nice simple setting for a still life. I very quickly painted the background first then a table cloth. I used my finger to smear the front of the cloth to soften it. With a fine 2/0 brush I sketched in a glass and refined the edges. I used the same 2/0 brush to outline the rose then quickly added several shade of red with a little Paynes Gray. A few swatches of olive green and white completed the leaves. Last was to mix some white with burnt umber to lay in the candle, keeping it in the background. I just felt the rose needed the company and warmth of a candle to complete the setting.
