Painting # 2146-Portrait
Story:
"Portraiture"-(Portraying) There are perhaps as many styles of portraiture as there are artists but the categories can be summed up as "Classical" as portrayed by the old masters to Contemporary and Modern to Pop Art. Charles Dickens once said "there are two styles of portraiture, the serious and the smirk" Having said that there were many "movements" to name a few, "neo-classic, Impressionist and expressionist". Perhaps the most recognizable portrait is the "Mona Liza" by Leonardo da Vinci. Regardless they all have one thing in common and that is the eyes. The eyes, the heart of the soul, tell us the character, the mood, the emotion, the fear and the joy of the subject. My style of portraiture would fall in the category of the "expressionist" where I try to capture the essence of the person through their eyes. For the most part I try to avoid a distracting background but to create one that supports the mood or emotion I'm trying to depict.
