Painting # Still life-2010-121

Story:

When I was a young boy I would visit my grandfathers farm about sixteen hundred acres in Sevierville, Tn. I would stay two or three weeks at a time and fish in the Little Pigeon River which ran right through the middle of the farm. He taught me how to fly fish and many mornings we would catch a mess of trout and my grand mother would fry them for breakfast. Wheat, corn and barley were the major crops which he ground up to feed about seventy head of cattle. There was also tobacco which I helped to help cut, tie up and hang in the barn until dry enough to market. There were other more domestic garden crops of beans, okra, cucumbers, turnips, potato's etc and of course more corn. But my favorite memories were the cellar where my grandmother would store all her canned jars of vegetables including peaches from the peach orchard. She would make the best peach cobbler in a large deep casserole dish. I can still taste the cinnamon, butter and brown sugar. This was always served as Sunday desert with a scoop of home made ice-cream. Even though they are gone now I still have fond memories of those days as though they were yesterday.
