When I mention the desert to someone who has not yet had the opportunity to visit Arizona or Southern California they seem to conjure the image of a vast area of hot baron land with nothing but a lot of sand and sand dunes. That may be more true of the deserts in the Middle East or South Africa but not exactly what one would see in the Southwest. I have tried to portray the natural beauty of the desert where the Saguaro cactus grows in the Saguaro National Park near Tucson. There are of course other species of cactus plants more numerous than I can mention is this short description. There is also a large variety of flowers that grow wild in the desert but it is evening sky that turns the desert into a seemingly magical land of untold color.
